-
Why is the pot heavy?
Our pots are made from natural Anatolian clay and shaped entirely by hand. The thickness of the clay gives the pot its characteristic weight, which helps with heat retention and even cooking.
-
Why do the colors vary from pot to pot?
Each pot is fired in a traditional open-fire setting, not in industrial kilns. Color differences occur naturally depending on how the flames and heat interact with different areas of the pot during firing. These variations make each piece unique.
-
Why is the inside of the pot black?
The black color inside the pot is a natural result of traditional open-fire firing. Since our Efes clay pots are not glazed, this smoky residue can sometimes transfer to your hands during first use or handling. This is completely normal and harmless.
-
Why should I do a first cure before use?
Curing helps strengthen the pot and prepares it for cooking. We recommend starting the curing process directly by applying oil and gently heating the pot.
-
Should I soak the pot before each use?
No. Once properly cured, the pot does not need to be soaked. Always cook on low heat and avoid sudden temperature changes.
-
Why does my pot have surface marks or small imperfections?
These are normal in handmade pottery. Marks, texture variations, and slight asymmetries are signs of craftsmanship and do not affect the pot’s usability or quality.
-
Is the pot lead-free or does it contain any harmful substances?
Yes, our pots are 100% natural and free from lead or any harmful chemicals. They are made using only clay and water, with no additives or glazes.
-
Is it suitable for making yogurt?
No. Because the pot is porous, it’s not recommended for yogurt-making, as it may absorb liquids.
-
Can I store food in the pot for long periods?
Not recommended. Due to its porous nature, the pot is ideal for cooking and serving—but not for storing food for extended periods, especially if the dish contains moisture or oil.
-
What does "twice baked" mean? Is my pot twice baked?
“Twice baked” refers to pottery that is fired two times—once to harden the clay, and a second time to finish the surface. Our Efes pots are traditionally fired once, in open flame, without glaze. Hence preserves their natural, porous structure.
